PROPOSAL FOR A PAINTING

Meine ersten Arbeiten, die aus meiner Zeit an der Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam datieren, sind auf Papier. Damals verfügte ich kaum über die finanziellen Mittel für Leinwände, außerdem entsprach Papier meiner spontanen, prozessualen Arbeitsweise. „Proposal for a Painting“ betrachte ich als eine Übergangsarbeit von Papier zur Malerei auf textilem Grund. Das mit Gouache eingefärbte Papier habe ich auf Baumwollstoff geklebt. Die Quadrate aus Kupfer sind gefundenes Material und stammen von Renovierungsarbeiten an einer Kirche in den Dolomiten.
My first works date back to my years as a student of the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and are all executed on paper. At the time, I barely had the financial possibilities to buy canvas; moreover, paper fitted my procedural and spontaneous way of working. “Proposal for a Painting” marks an interface between work on paper and work on fabric. Paper painted with gouache is glued onto cotton. The copper squares are from material I found at a reconstruction site of a church in the Dolomites.
