Der Schnittraum wurde 1997 von der Künstlerin Corinna Schnitt mit Hilfe eines Atelierstipendiums gegründet. Anstelle eines Ateliers mietete Corinna Schnitt Ausstellungsräume an, wo sie zusammen mit den KunsthistorikerInnen Yilmaz Dwiewior, Anette Freudenberger und Maria Anna Tappeiner von 1998 bis 2003 über 30 Ausstellungen organisierte. 2001 formierte sich das KuratorInnenteam neu und Rosanne Altstatt und Marjorie Jongbloed traten bei. Seit 2012 wird der Schnittraum eigenverantwortlich von Studierenden der HBK Braunschweig organisiert, wo Corinna Schnitt seit 2009 Professorin für Film/Video ist.

 

The Schnittraum was founded in1997 by the artist Corinna Schnitt, with the support of a studio grant. However, instead of a studio, she rented an exhibition space where, in cooperation with the art historians Yilmaz Dwiewior, Anette Freudenberger and Maria Anna Tappeiner, she organised more than thirty shows between 1998 and 2003. In 2001, the curatorial team reformed itself and Rosanne Altstatt and Marjorie Jongbloed joined. From 2012 to the present day, the Schnittraum is located at the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK), where Corinna Schnitt has held a professorship in Film/Video since 2009. The room is now run by students.
